The Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (QCF) will equip learners to prepare for employment in a specific occupational area. The aim is to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment as a Level 2 Fitness Instructor.

Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.
The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and so learners should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 2.

There will be numerous methods of teaching and learning to ensure the course is diverse meeting the needs of all types of learners; ranging from seminar work, individual and group activities, interactive activities, and presentations with a lot of gym based study to cement the necessary skills.
You will be internally assessed via:
- Multiple choice examination
- Portfolio of evidence
- Practical demonstration / assignment
You will not require any specialist equipment, however you will be expected to have suitable gym attire to train in. Shower facilities are available following practical based sessions.
You will need note pads and pens for note taking. It would be advisable to have a memory stick although most work can be accessed online.
You can progress straight into employment within the fitness industry as a gym/fitness instructor or progress to the Level 3 Personal Training Programme. There are a number of other qualifications to compliment the Level 2.
Learners have the opportunity to progress from the programme and with further study to become personal trainers either in health clubs or as a free-lance self-employed personal trainer.
