Course overview

The advanced apprenticeship in Science Laboratory Technician comprises of studying a BTEC in Applied Science and developing your skills and knowledge in the workplace. You may be involved in scientific research, analytical methods or practical experiments. You will attend college on day release basis, whilst also working towards your competence in the workplace.


Entry requirements

You will be working in industry within a laboratory setting.

You will need to have grade C/4 or above in English, maths and Science.


How will I be assessed

You will be required to show technical knowledge and competence through work activities.

Assessments are conducted in the workplace through observation of the duties carried out and a range of other methods including witness statements, professional discussions. You will also need to submit a portfolio of evidence and undertake research. The qualification is flexible to meet the needs of the job, however, home study and research will be required for assignments


What next

Completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship will allow for progress onto Higher Apprenticeships or higher qualifications.
