This course provides you with a programme of study over a range of disciplines to help you develop skills to progress your career through employment or further education at degree level. It is suitable for those who would like to work as technicians or technical engineers in electrical and electronics design, manufacture, maintenance, testing or fault finding. This is an award from Teesside University.

Level 3 BTEC Diploma or Level 3 Extended Diploma. A Level qualifications in mathematics or science.
For mature students with appropriate work experience a ' bridging' programme in mathematics may be required.
To apply for this course please complete the Teesside University Online Application Form. Once your application has been received you will receive an acknowledgement from Teesside University. Following this you will be contacted by either the course tutor or the Admissions Department at Darlington College with regards an interview.
This course is delivered using a combination of practical sessions, lectures and tutorials. You will be required to complement your college based learning with self-study. The course requires you to complete the study of 10 modules for the award of Higher National Certificate. Industry standard software will be used for programming applications. Electronic resources will be available on LearningZone.
Four core units:
- Engineering science
- Analytical methods for engineers
- Electrical principles
Plus specialist units chose to cover a range of disciplines:
- Data communications and networks
- Programmable logic controllers
- Digital and analogue devices
- Business management techniques
- Engineering design
- Utilization of electrical energy
A range of integrated assignments, case studies, projects and tests are planned throughout the year. All units are assessed and graded, either internally or externally.
This allows progression onto degree level programmes or a HND.
An HNC award opens up the possibility of a career in a wide range of engineering disciplines including design, manufacturing, project management and IT. The qualification provides you with the opportunity to seek career development in to senior positions in national and international companies.
