The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Plumbing and Heating is a qualification for anyone wanting to progress as a Plumber or Heating Engineer with gas and unvented hot water discipline.
On the job training is structured and agreed with your employer to ensure you learn the right skills over 4 working days.
Off the job training is arranged for you at college. You will complete this training on day release basis.
Any functional skills needed will also be programmed into this day. More information can be found on the City and Guilds website http://www.cityandguilds.com/
Subject to approval, this may change into a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard and will take 4 years to complete.
For this Apprenticeship you will preferably need 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English and ICT, as well as a Level 2 NVQ in Plumbing.
You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant environment for the duration of the Apprenticeship.
You will be required to attend an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report.

Amongst other key principles covered, the Apprenticeship will include;
- Understand and carry out electrical work on domestic plumbing and
heating systems and components
- Service and maintain domestic gas appliances
- Install, commission unvented hot water systems
- Know the requirements to install, commission and handover rain water
harvesting and grey water reuse systems.
Upon completion you can progress as a Heating and Ventilating Engineer or progress onto a Level 4 HNC in Building Studies at Darlington College or a HNC in Building Services Engineering.
