City & Guilds domestic heating and plumbing courses cover the essential knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in domestic plumbing and heating. Areas of study include:
- Domestic hot and cold water systems
- Central heating systems
- Sanitation systems
- Environmental technologies
This Apprenticeship is a qualification for anyone wanting to progress as a Plumber of Heating Engineer in domestic properties.
The course itself consists of one day in college every week. There you will do a half day theory and half day of practical workshop. Any functional skills needed will also be programmed into this day.
On the job training is structured and agreed with your employer to ensure you learn the right skills over 4 working days. Off the job training is arranged for you at college. You will complete this training on day release basis.

NOTE: Subject to approval, this may change into a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard and will take 4 years to complete.
Preferably you will need 3 GCSEs at grade D-E including maths and English and ICT. You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in plumbing, heating or a related role.
You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will require copies of your GCSE certificates.

Amongst others, key principles covered will include:
- Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering
- Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation and maintenance
- Understand and apply domestic above ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques
- Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems
Upon completion of the NVQ Level 2, you can progress onto the City and Guilds NVQ 6189-33 Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship.
