Course overview

This Apprenticeship is a qualification for anyone wanting to progress as a Plumber of Heating Engineer in residential properties.

The course itself consists of a day in college every week. You will do half day theory and half day of practical workshop. Any functional skills needed will also be programmed into this day.

The other four days of your working week, consists of you working on site with your employer gaining the necessary skills.

Entry requirements

Preferably you will need 3 GCSEs at grade D-E including maths and English and ICT. You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in plumbing, heating or a related role.

You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will require copies of your GCSE certificates.

Studying and learning

Amongst others, key principles covered will include:

  • Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering
  • Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation and maintenance
  • Understand and apply domestic above ground drainage system installation and maintenance techniques
  • Install and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems
What next

Upon completion of the NVQ Level 2, you can progress onto the City and Guilds NVQ 6189-33 Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprenticeship.
