|Qualification type:||Foundation Diploma|
|Start date||Monday 24th September 2018|
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is an exciting and cost effective opportunity for those wishing to develop their creative identity, confidence and skills in order to prepare themselves for higher education and/or employment. The course provides an insight into studying art and design in higher education, allowing students to explore new ways of seeing the world and their own work. Students develop higher levels of critical thinking and creative interpretation, supported by an exploration of creative activities and new techniques.
The Foundation Diploma provides a strong transitional experience between Level 3 study and degree entry. However, the course is designed to provide learners with a standalone higher qualification, better equipping learners for employment by developing higher levels of personal, intellectual and practical skills.
You will need a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design, or A Level equivalents.
Mature students (age 19+) with limited formal qualifications are also welcome to apply and will be considered based on prior experiences and portfolio.
The Foundation Diploma is made up of 3 stages;
Stage 1 – Exploratory
Unit 1 Researching, Recording and Responding in Art and Design
Unit 2 Media Experimentation in Art and Design
Stage 2 – Pathway
Unit 3 Preparation and progression in Art and Design
Unit 7 Information and Interpretation in Art and Design
Unit 8 Personal Experimental Studies in Art and Design
Unit 9 Extended Media Development in Art and Design
Stage 3 – Confirmatory
Unit 10 Final Major Project
Each unit is delivered around a series of seminars, lectures and projects. Students will be assessed on their ability to research, respond to briefs and develop projects to meet set criteria.
Essential kit will be discussed with applicants at the enrolment stage.
The course allows for progression in a range of degrees in a vast range of art and design subjects. The course also equips students with the necessary skills to progress in to entry level jobs within the industry.
