Darlington College journalism diploma graduate Becky Parkinson has joined a health trust’s communications team on an internship to help develop web content.

Becky, 19, completed the NCTJ Journalism Diploma in June leaving with a gold standard multimedia qualification in reporting and ethics, media law, public affairs, video journalism and achieving 110wpm shorthand.

She is now putting her skills in to action with County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust primarily researching, interviewing and copy writing for the trust’s website.

Becky, who started her journalism studies at the college with a BTEC journalism course before her NCTJ qualification, said: “When this opportunity came up I jumped right in! It was something I had never tried before, but after looking at the brief, it was basically rolling all of the skills I have learned at college into one.

“Having been here for nearly three weeks, my experience has been amazing. No day is the same and I can definitely see myself in a role like this in the future. I believe the skills I learnt both on the BTEC journalism course and the NCTJ course really helped me in my role, especially Public Affairs and Shorthand.”
