Jennings Ford, part of the Jennings Motor Group, is building a partnership with Darlington College, with the aim to steer youngsters on the road to a career within the motor repair industry.

Bodyshop manager, Tony Hallimond, who is based at the group’s Ford dealership on Yarm Road in Stockton, took time out of his busy schedule recently to give a presentation to students at the College about the benefits of Apprenticeship programmes and the many opportunities available within the motor repair industry.

Throughout the presentation, Tony talked about how his career began at the age of 15 when he was taken on as an Apprentice panel beater/body technician at the Jennings Ford dealership in Stockton. He then went on to highlight the many opportunities and promotions which have allowed him to progress his career from being an Apprentice to becoming bodyshop foreman, bodyshop estimator and his current role of bodyshop manager.

Tony said; “We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Darlington College. It was a pleasure speaking to the students not only about my personal experience, but also about the many opportunities there are available today for youngsters who are wanting to embark on a career within the motor repair industry through Apprenticeship programmes, or after completing relevant courses at College.”

Automotive Curriculum Manager, Neil Bowen commented; “We always relish the opportunity to work closely with local businesses to give our students the very best insight into industry and develop their employability. We are delighted that Jennings have recognised the talent that is grown within our automotive department.”

Jennings Ford’s bodyshop department in Stockton has also recently appointed 24-year-old, Mahbub Ahmed, from Darlington, who is a former student of the College and has just recently completed his Level 1 and Level 2 Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQ) in accident repair paint.

Mahbub, who also attended the presentation with Tony, is working as a full-time paint technician at the Jennings Ford dealership.

Mahbub said; “I’m delighted to have been given this excellent opportunity and to have found full-time employment at the end of my two-year VRQ course at the College.”

The partnership with Darlington College is part of an on-going programme implemented by Jennings Motor Group, which involves working with local Colleges and Training Centres.
