AN ASPIRING mechanic who approached a car centre after stumbling across an advertisement online has landed himself a dream apprenticeship.

Seventeen-year-old, Darlington College student, Robert McGhee, from Darlington, was offered a Mechanic Apprenticeship at Acklam Car Centre in Middlesbrough this year.

The mechanic said: “It’s great getting paid to do something I love, I feel honoured to be a part of the team”.

Service manager and mechanic, Paul Gibson, 43, from Middlesbrough said: “It’s the first apprenticeship we’ve had, we hope to produce a very good apprentice that will stay with us for a number of years”.

Robert, who has wanted to be a mechanic since childhood, is finishing his level 2 motor vehicle apprenticeship at Darlington College and is coming closer to being a fully qualified Mechanic.

“The service at Acklam Car Centre is great as they do  things to the highest calibre and I get to work with motor vehicles which is my passion and not just any vehicles, prestige vehicles”, he said.

The car centre has future hopes of expanding: “Hopefully yes, once we expand a little bit, we can maybe get another Apprentice”, Mr Gibson said.

The popular car centre deals with expensive second hand cars which last year included a £129,000 McLaren MP4.
