Lauri hopes to collect the advent calendars no later than the 28th November

Lauri Cox, a second year FDA Journalism student is asking for your donations to help those who cannot afford a calendar in the festive period.

Her aim is to collect as many advent calendars as possible by tomorrow, November 28th.

Lauri will donate the calendars to the Middlesbrough and Redcar food banks as well as the children’s charity Know Your Money.

The Finlay Cooper Fund, a charity run by former Middlesbrough footballer Colin Cooper in memory of his son, pledged over 275 calendars, helping hundreds of children in the area.

“I work with the Finlay Cooper fund and to my surprise, I received a phone call from Nick, who is a patron of the charity, as he saw my Twitter feed and got back to me saying they would donate 275 calendars,” said Lauri.

American food-diner Pixies in Middlesbrough has also donated up to 20 calendars for the cause. If people want to donate calendars, they can drop them off at the diner.

Lauri says she has been overwhelmed by the response from people who have donated.

“It’s ridiculous. Since Wednesday night, I’ve collected over 500 calendars from different people. My target was originally 50 calendars so to receive more than that is incredible. My grandma passed away recently so I’m donating all of the calendars in her name.”

Donations must be made by Friday the 28th of November, just in time for the Christmas period.
