International hair colourist Jack Howard will demonstrate the latest techniques in free- form highlighting at The Elements Hair and Beauty Salon, Darlington College, on November 2.
The event, hosted by the National Hairdressers’ Federation, the UK’s largest trade association for hairdressing, barbering and beauty salon owners.
The two-part training day will consist of a morning of creative colouring demonstrations followed by an afternoon of hands-on workshops to experiment with colour techniques including Balayage.
Colour Guru Jack, who is widely acknowledged for bringing Balayage to the UK, is the official colourist for Next Model Management.
His training techniques include New York Lights, Bronde, Babylights, 3D Colour and Ponytail Lights and he has styled celebrities including Poppy Delevingne, Suki Waterhouse, Donna Air and Gillian Anderson.
His career has taken him from London to Washington DC, New York to LA and San Francisco to Paris as a top hair colourist and a senior portfolio artist for L’Oreal Professionnel North America and L’Oreal Professionnel UK & Ireland guest artist.
His work comes highly recommended by magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, Harpers Bazzar, ES magazine, Tatler and more.
Darlington College curriculum manager for hair and beauty, Maria Harrop, said: “We are extremely honoured to have Jack Howard come to our salon and delighted that The National Hairdressers’ Federation has chosen Darlington College to host this event.
“This is great opportunity for local salon owners and stylists to come to the college, use our fabulous facilities, network, have the chance to train with one of the country’s leading colour experts and take what they have learnt back to their own salons.”
The National Hairdressers’ Federation North East region will also provide a free place to two Darlington College level 3 apprentices to attend on the day.
Programme leader for hairdressing apprentices Carol Cooke said: “Our level 3 apprentices are currently studying advanced colouring techniques so this will be an ideal opportunity for them.
“Having Jack Howard here will also open the eyes of all of our students to the opportunities that are out there in the industry and how far they can go.
“Hairdressing is not all about working in a local salon it can lead to jobs in the media styling for photo shoots and fashion shows all over the world – it really is a global industry.”
