The Travel and Tourism industry continues to be one of the fastest growing sectors of the UK economy. It is a major employer of people in the UK and employs more people worldwide than any other industry. The largest growth market is currently the cruising industry. As a result the opportunities available in the industry are vast and can include: Overseas Resort Representatives, Tour Guides, Tourist Information Advisers, Air Cabin Crew, Travel Consultants and Events Organisers.
If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.
To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.
You will need 4 GCSEs at grades D-E, including English and maths, or a level 1 qualification in a relevant area.
You will be required to attend an interview at the college and we will request a school or college report.

You will be studying a range of 12 different units across the year. There are two external examinations and the other eight are portfolio based and will be assessed through a range of methods. These might include reports, presentations, display boards, leaflets etc.

- UK travel and tourism destinations
- The development of travel and tourism in the UK
- International travel and tourism destinations
- Factors affecting worldwide travel and tourism
- Travel and tourism business environments (external exam)
- Travel and tourism employment opportunities
- Holiday representatives
- The cruise industry
- UK visitor attractions
- The travel and tourism customer experience
- UK travel agency operations

You can progress on to a Level 3 diploma, or seek work in overseas resorts.
You can also work within the tourism industry as a tour guide, travel representative, within events management, or in groundside aviation operations.

Full time further education course tuition fees are free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies, however if you are 19 years or over tuition fees will apply.
