The new BTEC Level 2 Technical Certificate for Tourism Events Assistant is an exciting new qualification for learners who want to start a career that involves organising and delivering events within the tourism sector.
The qualification has been developed in consultation with employers within the tourism sector. This means that it will enable you to develop the skills and behaviour that give you the best opportunity to be successful in applying for work.
The course also allows you unique chances to travel to places within the UK as part of the course to gain real life experience. Previous trips have been in the UK and included Forbidden Corner, Beamish, Flamingo Land and the York Christmas Market. We have also offered some international trips to Disneyland Paris and New York.
This course is ideally designed for 16-18 year old school leavers.
The BTEC Level 2 Technical Certificate study programme will consist of the following elements which you will need to complete:
• Main qualification – as above
• Individual & group tutorial sessions
• Development of English and mathematics.
• Development of enterprise and employability skills
This course also includes additional cabin crew qualifications.

You will need to have 4 GCSEs with grades D-E or 2-3 points, including maths and English. Your acceptance on the course will also be subject to an interview and evidence of a good attendance record.

This is a totally new course that allows you to learn in a different way. It will give you the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge, technical and practical skills, and to apply these skills in work-related environments.
The areas you will study are:
- planning and organising tourism events
- delivering customer service
- delivering a tourism event
- reviewing own practice and that of a tourism team.
You will also study an extra course, Cabin Crew. Cabin Crew will be offered alongside your main qualification to give you an understanding into the world of being a Cabin Crew member. It will give you the skills and confidence to help you further your career if Cabin Crew is your dream job!
Unit 1 will be externally assessed through an onscreen test. Units 2, 3 and 4 are internally assessed through assignments. One of these assignments is a vocational activity where learners have to deliver and review a tourism event with their peers in a real working environment.
Students that study this new course would be expected to move into employment (ready for tourism events assistant or tourism assistant) or progress onto a Level 3 Travel and Tourism course.
