Course overview

The course is aimed at those wanting to pursue a specialist career in the Health and Fitness industry as an Exercise Professional or a Strength and Conditioning Coach. We will provide you with a combination of specialist knowledge and skills to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes for exercise referral clients through to elite performers. In addition, you will also enhance your skill set and gain the knowledge and skills to be able to coach and deliver weight lifting (Olympic Lifts) to help prepare and work towards future UKSCA Accreditation.

Within the course you will study and qualify in:
- Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
- Level 4 Certificate in Physical Activity and Weight Management for Obese and Diabetic Clients
- Level 4 Certificate in Strength and Conditioning

Additionally you will also complete the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weight Lifting.

Attendance for this course will be 2-3 days a week.

Entry requirements

You must be 16 years or older and either have completed the Level 3 Personal Training, Therapy and Conditioning course with us, or hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Personal Training.

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and therefore you should have basic skills in communication covered in Levels 2 and 3. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

Some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights, is highly recommended.

Studying and learning

There will be numerous methods of teaching and learning to ensure the course is diverse to meet the needs of all types of learners; ranging from seminar work, individual and group activities, interactive activities, and presentations with a lot of gym based study to cement the necessary skills.

How will I be assessed

You will be internally assessed via:

• Coursework
• Multiple choice examination
• Portfolio of evidence
• Practical demonstration / assessment

Things you may need

You will not require any specialist equipment, however a uniform will be expected to prepare for industry.

Shower facilities are available following practical based sessions. You will need note pads and pens for note taking, and it would be advisable to have a memory stick although most work can be accessed online.

What next

You can progress straight into employment within the fitness industry as an exercise professional capable of being an Advanced Personal Trainer, an Exercise Referral Instructor or a Strength and Conditioning Coach.

This qualification also provides progression on to:

• Higher education (e.g. college or university) to study strength and conditioning at a higher level.
• A range of specialist strength and conditioning qualifications.
• Other Level 4 and 5 qualifications in related sectors.
