Course overview

This course is for anyone developing a career in the automotive motor industry. This practical qualification demonstrates your skills on the job and in your own workplace showing that you meet national standards for automotive workers. Its structure and assessment strategy has been produced by the Institute of the Motor Industry, who are the Sector Skills Council for the Automotive Industry.

If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme.  You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.

To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

Entry requirements

You will be required to have GCSE grade E or above in English and maths. You will also be asked to undergo an initial assessment that tests your maths and English. This needs to be passed at a Level 1 grade.

Studying and learning

Learning will take place in our industry standard accident repair workshop and classrooms. You will cover areas such as preparing, painting and finishing different surfaces, applying fillers and carrying out repairs to motor vehicles paintwork.

  • Vehicle construction technologies and workshop methods
  • Skills to support working relationships
  • Valet vehicles
  • Tools and equipment used in vehicle refinishing
  • Removing MET components and non permanently fixed body panels
What next

You will be able to progress on to a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Body and Paint (Body Repair).

Fees and funding

This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies. If you are 19+ years of age fees may apply. However help may be available. To see if you can receive any funding call our Student Services Team on 01325 503030.
Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.
