Level 3 Btec Diploma in Creative Media Production – 1 year

Level 3 Btec Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production – 2nd year

This unique learning experience is ideal for talented would-be journalists, broadcasters and marketeers who want to gain Level 3 qualifications, taught by industry professionals.  This course will give students a dynamic and exhilarating live work experience within broadcasting. Students will have opportunities to meet and interview ‘real stars’/help Star to create the day’s news/ be involved in programming for shows…giving them very practical experience, crucial for CVs.

The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels and allows you to progress to any university Hons Degree, subject to grades.

*You will be required to participate in trips and visits which may incur costs. You be notified of any trips and visits in a timely manner.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grades A*-C including GCSE English or an appropriate level 2 qualification (at a merit if graded) and a satisfactory school report.
We will request a school or college report and you will attend an interview at the college.

Studying and learning

Teaching and learning is achieved by using a range of methods including formal classes, set tutorial periods, workshops and live broadcasts to support many of the unit assessments.

The provisional units planned are: News Production for Radio; Factual Programme Production for Radio; Photography; Video Production; Understanding the Media Sector; Communication skills; Copy Writing; Layout and Design.

What next

Career opportunities exist to enter the industry at junior level in many job roles, including:

We do recommend further study, such as an NCTJ Diploma in Journalism, if you are wishing to progress within these roles.

Fees and funding

This course is free if you are 16-18 years of age on August 31 of the calendar year in which you begin your studies.

If you are 19 - 23 years of age fees may apply. However help may be available. To see if you can receive any funding call our Student Services Team on 01325 503030.

Course fees are payable to Darlington College. Registration and membership fees may be payable. All course fees are per year.
