This course provides you with a programme of study over a range of disciplines to help you develop skills to progress your career through employment or further education at degree level and the skills and knowledge required as a technician/engineer in a manufacturing engineering design, manufacture, maintenance and testing environment.
The course allows you to build on the technical and management skills that you will have already picked up on the HNC programme and develop more high level knowledge which can be practically applied in the workplace and help you to progress onto further courses of study.

An HNC programme in an appropriate engineering discipline. This course requires you to fill out an application form, and you must speak to the tutor prior to enrolment.
To apply for this course please complete the Teesside University Online Application Form. Once your application has been received you will receive an acknowledgement from Teesside University. Following this you will be contacted by either the course tutor or the Admissions Department at Darlington College with regards an interview.
This course is delivered using a combination of practical sessions, lectures and tutorials. You will be required to complement your college based learning with self-study. The course requires you to complete the study of 8 modules for the award of Higher National Diploma. Industry standard software will be used for CAD/CAM applications. Electronic resources will be available on SharePoint LMSFour core units:

- Engineering thermodynamics
- Business improvement techniques
- Project management
- Work-based learning
- Quality assurance and management
A range of integrated assignments, case studies, projects and tests are planned throughout the year. All units are assessed and graded, either internally or externally.
This qualification allows progression onto Teesside University's final year of their full time BEng Tech Degree, or entry onto a second year full time B Eng (hons) Degree in your chosen field.
