Subject Overview

 

Our Art and Design courses include practical and theoretical skills which lead to jobs. You will be given live briefs set by clients such as Durham Constabulary, Lingfield Point, Bored Sports – giving you that all important work experience required by employers.

You will acquire the skills and knowledge to either work in the art and design industry or progress to University/higher education. Our art studios include large practical areas for textiles, painting, drawing and product design. Our photography studios will equip you with the skills needed in a modern photographers workplace.‘

Our graphic design courses encourage creativity and allow you to invent and challenge the visual world and put your stamp on the look of the future. The design stream gives you the chance to develop your visual communication skills to effectively express design concepts in an ever changing market. We have state-of-the-art computers with the latest industry-standard software for you to use for graphic design work.

    What do you enjoy about your course?
    Everyone is very supportive and friendly. The course allows you to explore your interests in an innovative way.

    What attracted you to Darlington College?
    I attended a Taster Day and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere.

    What are your career aspirations?
    I want to be a graphic designer working on branding and advertising campaigns.

    What is the next step in your education?
    I want to go to university to study graphic design and hopefully obtain a Masters in this subject.

    How will this course prepare you for your next step?
    It will help me prepare a professional portfolio which I can use in the future and I have also grown in confidence.

    What advice would you give to other students?
    I strongly recommend studying here for the facilities, creative environment and the advice given to students.
