Course overview

The course will enable you to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress onto higher level professional training and education and employment.

If you are hard-working, innovative and driven and looking for access into Higher Education or a career in the tourism industry, then this course could be just what you are looking for.

We have close working links with a number of industry organisations, including multiple and independent travel agents, both national and local hotels including Premier Inn, Mercure, and Houndgate Townhouse, who allow our students to train with them to gain valuable work experience and employability skills.

Students will be required to attend college for a minimum of 3 days per week.

Entry requirements

You will need 5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C, which must include maths. Alternatively you will need a Level 2 Diploma qualification with merit grade or above.

We will request a reference and potentially suitable applicants will be invited for interview before being offered a place.

Studying and learning

Teaching and learning is achieved by using a range of methods including formal classes, set tutorial periods and projects to support many of the unit assessments.

  • Investigating International Travel and Tourism Environments

  • Sustainable Tourism Management
  • Tourist Destinations
  • Travel and Tourism - Issues and Impacts
How will I be assessed

You will be assessed by coursework in the form of written assignments and practical assessments, including role plays and oral presentations.

What next

Upon completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge further such as a Foundation degree in Tourism Management at a variety of different universities, progress onto a higher apprenticeship, or begin a career in the travel industry either in the UK or abroad, or in the conference and events industry.

 

Take job roles overseas as a representative or become a travel agent and arrange travel for local Businesses or work in conference and events.

 

Other job roles include; Hotel Customer Service Front of House, Marketing, Cabin Crew and Airport handling staff.

 

After a period of working and gaining experience within the sector, positions available could include; Social Media, Managerial role or even running your own business.
